Within the last 12 hours, Facebook has been rolling out the new Live Ticker to an increasing number of users. There are also some tweaks to sizing in the regular News Feed that we are noticing (larger profile picture thumbnails remind us of Google +).
This new Facebook ticker is live, everything that happens will pop up here, no matter how minute the activity.
The classic New Feed is more like the “Top News” you are used to. Here you will find popular posts with lots of engagement, stuff Facebook “guesses” you’ll like.

Yes, it changed this morning, and I absolutely hate it. And I have never complained when they’ve made changes the past 5 years I’ve had it. This one is terrible. I won’t use it. The ticker is too small and full of stuff I don’t care about (I’m not weeding through it all), and I feel like I’m missing stuff in the so-called “highlights.”

Download and install Facebook Purity (http://www.fbpurity.com/). Once install, you can go through the settings and hide the ticker as well as other annoying Facebook features. I’ve been using it for a couple years now and I’ve had no problems.

The ticker really pisses me off, its so useless. But if you play a lot of games and want to collect/ send stuff through the wall posts, then I would recommend Game Gift Finder.

My feed was changed to the new format three days ago and after 24 hours of letting it grow on me, I deactivated my facebook account, writing both feedback in the deactivation process and on the help page. I am actually appreciating the break from facebook and feel like I have more control over my online life.

I wish the same thing . because people that are on my friends don’t want others to see thier post but if I mark like it opens it up to all my friends in this live feed on the right. if there is a way to stop mine from showing I sure would like to know.
It seems like this happened to my account about a week ago. I don’t like the fact that the status updates is gone. Instead I have a notice that says “stories from the last two hours”. I feel like I am missing new and current information and updates from my friends. The bigger thumbnails for pictures is fine, they get arranged in an eye appealing way, but I still dislike the black frame that surrounds the picture when you click on it. I always hit the F5 key to get rid of that annoying black frame. This new view is only effecting me when I use Facebook on my IPad through Safari. I really do not care for it this way. When I use my desktop computer I get the old, “normal” view which I prefer. It really bothers me that the view is so different on my IPad, VERY ANNOYING. I wish I had a choice….I need to check out Google Plus!

I saw it on mine and then they removed it, funnily after i posted a status saying i hated it.
It prevents the top half of your page to be viewed, and it’s NOT real time. It refreshes when YOU refresh. It’s so stupid. On my news feed a post showed up immediately. I had to refresh the page to see it show up in the ticker. Can someone please kill facebook so it never has to bother us again?
Then we wouldn’t even have Most Recent & Top News Andrew! Bummer to hear that it really isn’t real-time. Hopefully they took it down to work out some of the kinks

I’ve had a select number of people in a specific list, so they didn’t have to view all my gaming crap, nor see when I was online, as I was mostly online to play these games.
Then they changed to their “New and improved” (NOT) chat. So I had to totally block my online presence from all because I could no longer choose on my own, who could view me.
NOW . . . People that I hide from mostly all the time (some very chatty older family members) are seeing all my business in their new TICKER! Well WTF! Give me some control, will you!?!?
I need to have them on my friends list, so I can communicate with them period, so I can’t delete them. Why are they insisting on making it all so publicized?

Help! Now very time I’m on line this person who has been annoying me, pops up on “Chat”, when I click it off, he appears at the same time in my (upper left hand side message box!!) I had to delete him. Now all my friends boxes have “checks” on them..I have lost control of my fb..and my information is all out there..the little “account” word that was on the upper right is gone..so easy to edit friends etc..this has become a lot of work and very worrisome..when people can lv you two messages at the same time..I feel that these changes are not in the best interest of you members…I’m thinking of my next move…

this is horrible, its so distracting for somthing to be moving while you try to read. i liek that you can minimize it on the sidebar, and drag to make your friends list and only see one ticker updatye at a time, its less distracting, but this is still stupid. i can see this causing problems for people with slow internet connections and computers. i think we should go back to 2009 facebook.

It’s the imminent evolution of facebook and no matter whether people like it or not, they’ll have to get used to it anyway, like it happened with most of the changes facebook did over time. I personally like this one, same as for most of them – facebook is smart enough to know what’s good or bad before implementing it, so all people that hate it are just either totally stupid or at least stupid enough to speak too quickly.
Hey Hristo – With every update Facebook releases, there is usually some negative backlash that fades when people get used to it. I’m assuming the same will happen this time.

Ugh, this stupid ticker shows all the boring detail of the people I banned. I banned them because their lives are SO BORING and they post SO OFTEN. This update is so ill thought out that I can’t believe it.

I think it should only give information that’s relevant to a users interests…in other words, stuff that only applies to you…and your friends…not what your friends are doing with someone you don’t know. I mean to be honest, what if your boyfriend/girlfriend has been talking to someone you don’t know and it’s really flirtatious? (A rather crappy example, but still…)…

When are the people that design these features going to realize that we don’t like them? Geez, I’m still mad about the whole “Chat” thing. It would be nice if they would make it where you could opt out of a change. This new ticker feature blows. It’s just duplicating my wall.

There are times when I do not want people to know when I am online and this “Facebook Ticker” is taking away the privacy away. Some of these comments are ridiculous. People are basically screaming that it’s a terrible idea and will never work. The feature was just rolled out, changes will be made that’ll hopefully please us. I saw it, and issue number one for me was that we couldn’t select who we could see. But I’m sure that won’t be true for long, because that seems like a sensible addition. All in all it’ll just act like a self-updating most-recent news feed, because most things that show up in the ticker already show up there.
but the more surprising thing is the number of people who are opposed to any changes in general. not liking the chat feature? when it came out it was sketchy, but now it’s as reliable as any feature. This will probably end up being a nice addition to facebook, and as the sidebar that shows your friends is already easily hidden, the ticker will surely be the same.
I couldn’t agree more. People are reluctant to change because at first it always seems “hard & awkward” simply because it’s new. This will change over time as Facebook tweaks it to our liking (I can’t imagine they wouldn’t allow you to control who you want to see, especially with all theses privacy settings rolling out as well).

Don’t know if it’ll do any good, but I have to add my 2 cents–the Ticker SUCKS. At the very least there needs to be an “turn off” or “hide” option. Yet another example of “new & improved, but WORSE.” I’m glad it vanished again, hope it stays that way.

I really hate this new update, Its annoying that I can’t update my news feed i’m stuck with posts that are old and everytime I log back on I barely see anything new..everythings says “friday at 8:20″ or “22 hours ago” Its like okay, well I’d rather know whats going on today. I liked being able to go on facebook and see older posts and then click update news feed and see recent stuff. The ticker thing is annoying too, I don’t care if ___ liked ___’s photo or ___ comment on ___’s status. I rather just scroll down my news feed and be able to see whos commenting on what. Whatever maybe now ill actually get my homework done because this new facebook isn’t even exciting to go on.

ticker is the best and most useful update to facebook in a long while…the status update home screen still shows statuses you might have missed in the ticker so dont know why people are complaining and the fact that you can reply directly from the ticker is juts awesome

I hate the new Facebook! It’s one thing not to give you a choice whether or not you want to be a “tester”, but they don’t allow the users any input. Why am I not able to give feedback? If they are testing it on a group, why is that group not involved? There is no way to contact FB to share your feedback.

I hate it. I disabled my every single like and comment from showing up on my profile, because I do not actually want all my contacts to see everything I do. I have no way of hiding my activities from the ticker. Also, the facebook algorithm is useless at determining what I do and do not want to see: I’m missing a lot of friends’ posts because they are disappearing in the ticker rather than showing up in my main feed. I want all my news in one place, and if I do not want to see updates from a particular person, page or app I will hide it there.

You people are too dramatic. Facebook has changed for good. I love the new ideas, now Facebook has a lot more things you can do on it. I think this is a great improvement. This world is constantly changing, and so is Facebook. If you can’t deal with Facebook changes, how will you deal with the world and it’s changes?

UMM, no. it’s called, either facebook makes us HAPPY, or we leave. our complaining is us giving facebook a chance to fix their problems before we leave.
while I agree that it’s stupid to automatically complain about a change for the better, THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM. that whole ticker thing is a complete invasion of privacy, while I could like it if there were more options with privacy involved, there is not, therefor I want it gone, or I will be.

I cant see ths ticker thing but all of my family and friends have been mixed up, friends are mixed with family and the other way round, on most of them now it says ‘pending’, I just dont get it, there dont seem to be any new posts from any of my friends or family either and thats unusual. absolute sh*te.
Hey Ellen! Have you played around with “Lists” yet?? Try to organize your friends that way and let me know how it goes!
Absolutely hate it. If I wanted a Friend Feed account I would have signed up for it. I also want to know how it works in regard to broadcasting my updates and what not. I used to have very strict controls on which of my FB contacts saw what but I think FB has pretty much ruined all of those. Guess I’ll be moving more and more over to my G+ profile.
Hey Keith – That is what Facebook lists is for! If you put together meaningful lists, you can control what you share with exactly who you want. Let me know if you want some help getting all set up =D
Alex my lists went out the door and became useless with the new ticker and timeline. Ive been searching for info on how to make it all work again but as far as I can tell the only thing I now control is my wall. Which means I will be doing far less on fb in the future.

i heard that your friends on facebook can see the interaction you have not only with mutual friends but with others too? is this true? isn’t that an invasion of privacy? can you change your privacy settings so that doesn’t happen?
Wait till they really change the entire layout to the timeline that they are planning in the next month. It will completely change facebook as we know it.
privacy ? what privacy ? this ticker throws that away == you may be able to control who sees your stauts or wall comments – but this ticker announces every ‘like’ or photo comment – and you cant control who sees it !!!!!
keep the ticker i dont care but you should be able to control who sees your activity on it like you do with your wall
i dont go online on chat because i cant control anything there – not it seems i cant like a photo or a comment anywhere either
I do NOT want to “get used to” the ticker. Not allowing me to decide if I want MY activity publicly available to whomever is NOT ok. I’m giving it a few more weeks to be taken down before I leave FB.
I cant like or comment on something without all my friends knowing now. Before you could at least go into your newsfeed and hide or delete that activity so nobody can see what you have been doing. I will give it a few weeks, (while been careful what i comment on and like) hopefully it gets removed or at least given the option not to have all your shit be posted on on everyones ticker.
Im even worried that people on my facebook list will see this, the interweb is getting to much, soon you wont be able to fart without johns uncles next door neighbours cousins uncles neighbour in brazil knowing.

I can handle the annoying new set up in my news feed, but I really don’t like the ticker. Not only do I not need it (facebook while you facebook?), but I don’t like that everything I do shows up in it too. I’m kind of a jerk in comments sometimes, & I’d rather everyone on my friends not see that. d:

I HATE the ticker…How do you get rid of it?
Alright click on the “app ticker” and use the Ad-Block option to remove this. It should bring you to a slider where you can start removing elements.
apps.facebook.com##DIV[class="fixedAux"] is what you are looking to remove.
I’ve been trying to get This news feed Ticker for months !!! Now, after reading all the comments, I don’t think I want to go there :O Other family members have it & like it but I can’t access it. Grow with the flow I suppose
I don’t want to see the actions of all my friends, just some of them. How do I do this?
Jill, you can sort the friends that you want to see into a list. Then when you view the list you will only see those peoples news feed.
If only I could sort the activity I don’t want people to see out of my general feed.
Very unhappy with fb atm. I don’t want to subject my non gamer friends to game posts but now feel I have no control over it. Maybe I’ll go back to playing wow instead.

I’m also curious why the ticker doesn’t show up on my profile. Facebook claims that ticker should show up unless you don’t use it very much, but I use it plenty, and have 600+ friends. i enabled the new timeline, but still, no ticker. Any ideas/suggestions?

Thanks, Alex! I tried Firefox, Chrome, and Safari, but no dice. I’m using a MacBook Pro, and tried everything (including Explorer) on my girlfriend’s HP, as well. The ticker showed up on Chrome for a day or two when I logged in to her computer a few weeks ago, but when I logged out and logged back in, it was gone. It’s like it never updated, but of course there’s no one to ask at FB! Anyway, if anyone else has any ideas, let ‘em fly! Thanks!
I was forced into timeline and the change started at the same time. I hate my fb activity being logged constantly because I started the fb account primarily for networking. It makes me feel stalked. If I am playing a game on fb that is my business and not the general populace. And everyone doesn’t need to know all my likes or what I have commented on. I have not found a way to make it so that my activity is private. Going in and setting each item to hidden is a complete waste of my time as the game I play posts things constantly. Because I tend to pop in and out of fb while writing it makes it look like I do nothing but sit at computer all day and socialize. Grrrrrrrr. I think that about sums up my thoughts on it.
